Cleaning of Precision Parts with Ultrasound – Our Core Competence
Every surface treatment does need a previous and final cleaning. Aqueous cleaning with the use of ultrasound in combination gives the best cleanliness in relative short times. The mechanical activation of the cavitation by means of the ultrasound gives very good cleaning results on parts with complicated geometry and delicate structures such as dead-end holes and grooves. Ultrasonic cleaning is a gentle cleaning procedure by which also delicate surfaces can be cleaned safely and very efficient.

Mass-finishing is a grinding process for the surface finishing of mostly metal parts. A lot of different media can be used for blasting processes. Those media can be abrasive in order to texture the surface, equalize irregularities or to eliminate contamination. Also media which do compact the surface in the boundary layer can be used. Through this process the fatigue-strength of metallic components can be enhanced significantly.

Electrolytic polishing (Electropolishing) as surface-finish for stainless steel is since decades widely used in the overall and also in the med-tech industry. It is a process in which metal from the parts being treated is dissolved as a result of electric current. The object is for this purpose placed in a special electrically conductive solution. Electrolytic polishing does reduce the surface roughness. Sharp edges such as burrs and corners are removed faster what does lead to "finest-deburring" of the entire surface which does lead to a bright, reflecting surface with an improved resistance to corrosion due to chromium enrichment of the surface.

Passivation – Improvement of the Corrosion Resistance
Stainless steel which is used in the med-tech industry has to have a excellent corrosion resistance against all media which are in contact with the product. This corrosion resistance can be reached by passivation. Through the passivation process exogenous surface contamination such as free iron from tooling or iron oxide are removed and it will facilitate the formation of a homogenous passive film of chromium-oxide on the stainless steel surface which does significantly improve the corrosion resistance of the product.

Color-Anodizing of commercially pure titanium or titanium alloys in orthopedics does fulfill several needs and expectations. Beside other aspects the following requirements and advantages are primarily in the forefront:
  • Influence of the interaction between the implant and the surrounding tissue
  • Improvement of the gliding properties of the material
  • Chemical and thermal stable coloring of the surface
  • Durable and unique coloring for aesthetic purposes or color-coding of products
Through integrated and controlled process a large number of colors that are attractive, functional and reproducible in both alloyed and commercially pure titanium products can be generated.

Anodizing Type II – TioDark (Dark- or Hard-Anodizing)
The extent of galling during mechanical sliding or rubbing action of Titanium is reduced significantly by this surface finish. In addition, a significant increase in fatigue strength can be achieved without additional mechanical finishing operations. TioDarkTM anodizing is also bio-compatible, an essential implant requirement.
